MUZHILAN 4.0 Smart‑Factory Project — End‑to‑End Automated Panel‑Processing Case Study

2026-09-11 - Leave me a message

To resolve those operational bottlenecks, MUZHILAN deployed the 4.0 smart‑factory solution built by EXCITECH. This turn‑key automated system delivers a continuous panel‑processing sequence: robotic‑driven collating and storage of incoming sheet‑goods panels, CNC nesting routing, edgebanding, through‑feed boring for assembly‑hole preparation, robotic stacking and buffering, all the way through finished‑part packaging for individual customer orders.

Project Workflow & Key Automated Functions

1. Robotic Collating & Automated Sheet‑Goods Storage

Robotic systems receive raw sheet‑goods, perform collating to group panels by production order, and deliver organized panels into automated panel‑storage positions. This step removes manual sorting work and maintains traceability for every sheet‑good entering production. Material is called‑on automatically according to production schedules.

2. CNC Nesting Routing (Cutting)

Panels are automatically conveyed from storage to the CNC nesting router. The machine executes cutting, grooving and part separation for cabinet‑component blanks. Servo‑driven automation lets operators adjust parameters on‑screen rather than manual machine tweaking, delivering near‑zero setup time for frequent order change‑overs.

3. Automated Edgebanding

Cut components transfer to edgebanders via automated material‑handling. Multiple edgebanding units handle varied edge requirements for TFL (melamine), MDF and high‑gloss sheet‑goods. Pre‑milling, glue application, end trimming, profile trimming and buffing are completed in continuous pass.

4. Through‑Feed Boring for Assembly‑Hole Preparation

Next, parts flow into the through‑feed boring machine. The unit mills vertical and horizontal assembly holes on cabinet panels to prepare for subsequent joinery. **All fastener‑ or dowel‑insertion work happens offline after panels exit this automated line; no hardware‑insertion mechanism is integrated within the workflow.**

5. Robotic Stacking & Buffering

After machining, finished cabinet‑component panels flow to robotic stacking stations. Robotic units organize and stack parts per‑order, powered by in‑house‑developed stacking algorithms to reliably handle mixed‑size panels. This zone acts as a buffering area between machining stations and final packaging, smoothing production rhythm for batch‑size‑one orders.

6. Order‑Driven Automated Packaging

Stacked panels belonging to the same customer order transfer directly to downstream packaging stations. The plant completes order‑specific packaging with minimal human intervention, closing the full‑cycle automated workflow for machined cabinet panels.

Real‑World Operational Outcomes

Reduced manual material handling: Robots take over repetitive lifting, collating and stacking tasks; shop‑floor personnel shift to higher‑value oversight and equipment‑monitoring roles.

Improved part traceability: Every sheet‑good stays linked to its target customer order throughout storage, nesting, edgebanding, boring, stacking and packaging.

Stable performance for batch‑size‑one: In‑house stacking logic handles constantly‑changing panel dimensions typical for custom cabinet‑component orders.

Maximize uptime: Automated end‑to‑end panel‑processing workflow lowers human‑caused mistakes and part‑scratch incidents. Servo‑driven set‑up reduction shortens change‑over cycles for high‑mix production.

Scalable architecture: The smart‑factory setup supports future capacity expansion without fundamental rework of core automation hardware. Shops can also implement modular subsets for phased upgrade.

Application Reference

This real‑world turn‑key project serves as a practical reference for cabinet‑component manufacturers evaluating end‑to‑end panel‑processing automation. Facilities may adopt the full‑scale smart‑factory concept or select modular subsets: automated storage‑collating cells, CNC nesting router lines, edgebanding automation, robotic stacking, or automated packaging stations for phased modernization.
